Nervous System II Peripheral Nervous System - Somatic Nervous System o Sensation and voluntary actions o 12 pairs of cranial nerves Olfactory nerve (sensory): supplies olfactory input to olfactory bulb Optic nerve (sensory): supplies visual input to lateral geniculate nucleus Oculomotor (motor): controls most eye muscles Trochlear nerve: controls superior oblique muscle of eye Trigeminal nerve: carries sensory input from face, controls jaw Abducens nerve: controls external eye muscles Facial nerve: carries sensory input from tongue and palate, controls face muscles Acoustic nerve: carries auditory and balance input Glossopharyngeal nerve: carries sensory input fromt eh tongue and throat, controls throat muscles Vagus nerve: carries sensory input from the heart, lungs and viscera, controls movement of the heart, lungs and viscera Accessory nerve: controls neck and muscles Hypoglossal nerve: controls tongue and neck muscles o 31 pairs of spinal nerves
