Joshua Dray 11-29-11 History of Terrorism Ku Klux Klan The Ku Klux Klan is known today by the FBI as a domestic terrorism group and has been the focus of many of the domestic terrorist actions over the last 150 years. The KKK was originally founded in 1865 as a group with a common interested of helping orphaned children and single mothers. Just five years after being founded to help people it turned to violence and was disbanded a year later by law. The original objective of the KKK was to reverse the civil rights that were granted to black after the Civil War. The KKK is a white supremacist group that holds the belief that only white, heterosexual Christians deserve civil rights. With time however the goal of the KKK has been slowly changed to oppose the civil rights of other religious and ethnic groups. Examples of how the KKK’s goal has changed include their now opposition to Jews, gays, and Catholics. Today however instead of focusing on a single ethnic group the clan spends most time focusing their hate speech against immigrants. The KKK was originally founded by six men in Tennessee. The KKK was found to mimic other secret organizations during that time period. During the time period which the KKK founding document was written they designed an ornate hierarchy of officers
