Prompt: According to Gurr, terrorism is short-lived. Comment on this assertion and contrast/compare to the existence of a terrorist organization that has extended beyond Gurr’s 18 month existence. According to White’s book on terrorism Gurr states that most terrorism activities are short lived and die down within 18 months. This seems like a logical explanation if we take into consideration that those that last longer than 18 months usually have a political motif, have external funding, and are considered “large” terrorism groups. Gurr suggests that most terrorist groups involve only a few people and of those few people more of them are just making noise, and not really committing any violent or physical acts that lash out. Gurr suggests that those groups who will last long are those that have external funding from another group, perhaps through methods like Hawala funding from other organization obtaining funds through various methods. Gurr states that most terrorist groups which have diverse causes and often the true reason behind a terrorist organization is unknown, but no matter what the cause of the terrorist group, the group usually has a short life span of less than 18 months.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
