Garcia 1 Danilo Garcia Instructor Lemon English 1 November 17, 2011 Maus In the novel “Maus”, Art Spiegelman shows us how the holocaust affected thousands of people. It teared people apart from their families, and ultimately many lives were lost. In this historic event the holocaust, we see how it brought many people together in the concentration camps for a chance at survival. Art Spiegelman shows us another way of looking at how things affected people in the concentration camps, and how communities can be broken apart or brought together people. The methods of survival portrayed in the novel Maus by Art Spieglmen are ways of showing how communities can come together during harsh times to survive difficult mo- ments through determination. For most people, survival is just a matter of putting food on the table, making sure that the house payment is in on time, and remembering to put on that big winter coat. Prisoners in the holocaust did not have to worry about such things. Their food, cloths, and shelter were all provided for them.
