Research Paper Ideas Ethics of Patents for Genetic Testing of Breast Cancer(BRC1) NEEDS TO BE: five pages (a critique, an extended explanation or a discussion of ethical and/or legal issues may be appropriate) - First part explaining Breast Cancer(breast neoplasm); can note at end that “In 2008, breast cancer caused 458,503 deaths worldwide (13.7% of cancer deaths in women)” – wiki - Bring up BRCA1 mutation – a human tumor suppressor gene that produces a protein called ‘breast cancer type1 susceptibility protein’. BRCA1 is expressed in the cells of breast and other tissue, where it helps repair damaged DNA or destroys cells if DNA cannot be repaired. If BRCA1 itself is damaged, damaged DNA doesn’t repair properly and this increases risks for cancers. - Possibly speak of history of genetic testing - Then speak of ETHICS – need last 2 sections to be part of that.
