Why Was the Taxi Driver Sad? A coil is set up in order to investigate some relationships between coils and magnetic fields. Different numbers of wires are wrapped around a PVC pipe in order to create coils and are held vertically. A magnet is dropped from various heights through the PVC pipe and the induced EMF is obtained. The results are discussed. I. INTRODUCTION Different numbers of wires are wrapped around different PVC pipe connecters. The pipe connectors are placed on PVC pipes and hung vertically from different heights. A strong magnet is dropped from the top of the PVC pipes and the induced EMF created is measured by connecting a voltmeter to the ends of the wires wrapped around the PVC pipe connector. A relationship between the EMF and the number of turns of wire on the coil, and the EMF and the distance the magnet has been falling is obtained and discussed. II. THE MODEL Figure 1 shows a PVC pipe connector with wire wrapped around it to create a coil. The length of wire needed is
