5/5/08 Dwayne Mulder Philosophy 101 MWF 11-11:50 Deceptive Advertisement in Proactiv Many advertisements attack the consumers' weaknesses by the use of celebrity endorsements. Proactiv solution, an acme treatment system, uses celebrities such as Jessica Simpson, Vanessa Williams, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Serena Williams to target especially teenagers into purchasing their product. This company chooses already attractive people to sponsor their product that is based on improving one's appearance. Is that not ironic? This is harmful to the consumer because it entices girls to buy their product in hopes of becoming as attractive as Jessica Simpson or Vanessa Williams. Proactiv uses its power of deceptiveness to show the consumers that acme is unacceptable in society's eyes and clear skin is the key to looking beautiful. The advertisements deceive the consumers into forgetting just how beautiful they really are. Celebrities are always in the public eye and need to look good.
