Chapter 23 1.)Where did early television news appear? -local stations and network news programs began to flourish by 1950 and Edward R. Murrow with CBS (453) 2.)What toppled quiz shows from their popularity? -a disgruntled contestant claimed that the programs were rigged and after a congressional investigation, they found that program sponsors had decided to feed answers to Charles Van Doren (host) and certain contestants to assure that the most popular ones would win. 1957-58 (454) 3.)How did new technology change the newspaper industry? -The Typesetter system, invented in the 1950s, sped the process of setting newspaper type and reduced labor costs by connecting a tape-perforating machine to Linotype machines. Also, photocomposition and offset printing were created after WW2. By eliminating the use of metal type, they speeded up the pringting process, reduced costs and changed much of the newspaper printing process from a heavy industry into quiet office work.
