Farzana Rahman July 28, 2010 Smoking Today I will share with you about the pros and cons of smoking. First of all let’s start with the definition and origin. Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Tobacco first came to be known in the plantations of South America as early as 5000 BC. Some ancient civilization used to smoke in religious rituals while others used to get in contact with tobacco to experience the spiritual world. In the 1600s when the European explorers came to the Americas, they learned about this plant from the Native Americans. They took this practice back home with them to Europe, where it became very popular and the American profits from the sale of tobacco started to grow. Soon tobacco became known as “cash crop”. Now thousands of years later, smoking still continues to be a popular practice. The very popular habit of smoking has sky rocketed since last century and as a result of this, about ten million cigarettes are being purchased in every minute throughout the world since last
