Settlemen house movement: settlemen worked with poor immigrants to help poor immigrants assimilate in society o F o Muckraking spirit: To expose general public to a specific problems with the hope that Americans will support reform effort. Upton Sinclair : wrote jungle: actually fiction: to expose way capitalist system exploited worker. First presidential investigative committee was sent out to check if meat packing plants. Congress reacted with: meat inspection act and pure food and drug act, as result from Sinclair novel. o Populist influence: (calling for radical expansion of govt.) The radical ideas of change where deemed necessary down the road. Partially Thanks to muckrakers 3. Achievements o State level: 1,000’s of new laws passed, Wisconsin: model progressive state ( under leadership of La Follette),
