Test 2 "Bloody Shirt":  When a Mass congressman wave the bloody shirt of an Ohio carpet  bagger who had been flogged by Mississippi terrorist. It was an anti Dem political tactic:  remind voters/people that the dems were the southern states during the war. It was over  used by any Republican running for office, and related to rights of blacks (Republicans  needed blacks to vote in order to hold power). Booker T. Washington : Born a slave ended up opening Tuskegee institute in bama.  Believed blacks must pick themselves up by their own bootstraps through education and  etc…. illustrated delima btw confrontation and accomodation W.E.B. Dubois: African American Militant, believed Washington was too soft, Started  Niagara movement, national officer of NAACP: represented change in African American  Rev. . "Tweed Ring": New York city machine that extracted 10+million dollars from public. Most
