1. What vivid scene had the most impact on you during your first reading? Before you go back into the text for a second reading of that scene, please first type three details you remember the most vividly from that passage. The most vivid scene I can recall from the passage is the one in which Baldwin has an emotional breakdown of sorts. After being turned away from a public restaurant, Baldwin’s anger suddenly explodes and his rage manifests itself in his attack towards the white waitress. I remember that Baldwin throws a pitcher of water at the waitress, while the people in the restaurant stare at him with open mouths. Also, I remember that as soon as Baldwin threw the pitcher, he realized what he had done and his spell of madness had broken. Baldwin escapes what could have been his death when he flees the restaurant on foot and his white friend points the police in the opposite direction. (Page 48, paragraphs 21,22) 2. Then please find that scene in the text and place brackets at the points at which the sensory details began to have an impact on your inner senses and where you feel that scene reaches a point of closure or transition to another scene.
