BIO/100 THEORIES OF BIOLOGY CHECKPOINT According to Biology: What Is the Study of Life? (n.a.) pg. 10-11, the following ideas are based off of the theories of Biology. Evolution by Natural Selection: Evolution occurs in species that are naturally selected to evolve with the environment over time. Inheritance: Traits pass down from parent species to their offspring. These traits later became known as “genes”. Cells: Cells make up the inner/outer workings of living organisms and are created by pre-existing cells within the same make-up. Biological Classifications: Classifies groups of species by determining similarities and differences among living organisms, which includes species that come from the same line of ancestry of other species. Bioenergetics: The same energy that sustains life is the energy that controls life in the inanimate universe. Homeostasis: Organisms function best when their inner confines are maintained in narrow space, allowing for better internal maintenance while tolerating external conditions. Ecosystems:
