2Chi-Square Data AnalysisUnderstanding what type of analytical procedure to use when analyzing data can becomplicated, especially if the data is nominal.According to Tanner, nominal data which issometimes referred to as “categorical data” is used to count the number of times, or thefrequency, the data is present within a specific category (2016).There are two tests that are usedwhen analyzing nominal data, the Chi-square goodness fit test, also known as 1 x k, and the chi-square test of independence. As per our textbook, the Chi-square goodness fit test can only haveone variable, however, several categories can be analyzed under this variable.Whereas the chi-square test of independent allows for two variables with each being capable of having numerouscategories if need be (Tanner, 2016).
