Please submit a solution of just one problem. Choose any problem you like. If you submit more than one solution, I will choose the one to be graded. Other solutions will not be graded. Please explain your reasoning. There will be no partial credit for unexplained calculations with wrong results. Problem 1 A disk of radius R has a small disk cut out of it (see figure). The cut out disk has radius R/ 2. The mass of the remaining shape (gray area) is m . Find out its moment of inertia with respect to the axis going perpendicular to the plane of the figure through the point A at the top of the large disk. The line OO connecting the centers of the large and small disks is horizontal, the OA line is vertical. O O A Solution: The total moment of inertia I of the shape is equal to the moment of inertia I 1 of a full large disk minus the moment of inertia I 2 of a small disk cut out of the large one.
