Review of an Article on
“Pandemic Preparedness in the Financial Sector”

According to Husin, G. (2009) pandemic refers to an outbreak of an infectious disease in
humans and is capable of spreading speedily over extensive areas. This paper examines several
pandemics that have occurred in the past several years and their impact on the financial sectors.
The paper also examines the preparedness of the financial sector regarding the pandemics.
The paper regarding that the financial sector ought to incorporate the pandemic planning
in their existing Business Continuity Management (BCM) capabilities. This can be achieved by
incorporating the various strategies as well as policies related to pandemic planning in critical
areas such as human resources, work priorities, multi-industry interdependencies as well as
communication sectors. Participation in the IWE 2 allowed some business organizations to
improve their pandemic preparedness because they were able to review, test as well as update the
pandemic management plans. This also facilitates risk awareness, particularly within the
financial industry.
Moreover, Husin, G. (2009) also argued that BCM help in protecting the organization
against unexpected scenarios, for instance, accidents, natural disasters, terrorist acts as well as
disease outbreaks. This article also identifies key disciplines that have to be included in the
incident management framework and they include business continuity, technology Workplace
infectious control, infectious management, Internal and external communication, travel
management as well as service provider’s readiness et cetera.
