Parents have more expectations for  firstborns , also there is more pressure on firstborns Multiple factors of divorce  are age and sex of child and how bad the conflicts are Divorce can be positive  if you get out of a high conflict situation, getting away from it Dealing with divorce: o  Explain it’s not their fault, Give permission to feel bad, Maintain continuity so   keep as many things the same as possible, maintain familiar things Parenting and peer interaction ( training ground for aggressive behavior)  bullying example you set for you children How much TV do kids watch? o  On grad from high school, spend more time on TV, then direct interaction with  parents or working in class How can you test if violence is related to TV?  o Lots of studies show that if you watch violent TV or games you tend to show   more aggression. How does the concept gender different from sex?  o gender is social and cultural, sex is biologically difference (parts) Parental influences on gender socialization o Really fathers that do most to socialize gender socialize, not on purpose. Fathers   are more controlling, say daughter looks pretty, then talks to son about goals and   sports Cognitive appraisal: Primary and secondary (problem-centered).  o Primary you interpret the situation, asses it ask what the problem is?
