Lucia Lee November 7, 2011 Final Outline Title: Baby beauty pageants in the United States Topic: Baby beauty pageants should be banned Specific Purpose: To inform my audience why baby beauty pageants in the United States should be banned. Introduction Attention Materials: So, who hear has watched the TLC television show Toddlers and Tiaras? Toddlers and Tiaras is a television show in which toddlers run to win a beauty pageant. Well, the first time I actually watched the television show was during the summer when I was flipping through the channels. After watching an episode of the television show, I was repulsed. Thesis Statement: Baby beauty pageants should be banned in the United States. Preview: Baby beauty pageants began around the 1960’s and are a growing sensation within the United States, with currently 250,000 little girls participating in these pageants. The glitz pageant, which is the type of pageants people see on television, is the pageant that I believe young girls should be banned from participating in. ( Now, what are the two types of beauty pageants?) Body I. There are two main types of baby beauty pageants that girls can enroll in. A. The first type of pageant is the natural pageants. a. The prize awarded for the pageants is based on natural beauty and authenticity. b. Contestants under the age of 13 are not allowed to wear makeup
