Full Outline Speech I Heading Title: Exotic Pets in the United States Topic: Exotic Pets Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about exotic animals as pets in the United States. Introduction: Attention Materials: Has anyone heard of the incident that happened a few years ago regarding a woman being mauled by her pet chimpanzee? Chimpanzees are one of the many exotic animals allowed to be kept as pets in the United States. Sandra Herold, a friend of Charla Nash, owned a pet chimpanzee named Travis. Nash came over to Sandra’s house to help her take care of Travis; however, in February 2009, Travis savagely attacked Charla and the result of the attack left Charla without eyes, nose, lips and hands. (Daily News) Thesis Statement: Regardless of exotic animals being a threat to one’s health, exotic pets are still popular in the United States. Preview: Exotic animals are a growing sensation and many people want to own exotic animals. There are currently 18.2 million people who want to own an exotic pet. (Transition: Now, what other exotic animals can be kept as pets in the US? ) Body I. Even though there are many exotic animals that can be kept as pets in the United States, each state in the US has certain laws and restrictions for owning exotic pets.
