Chapter 7 Response Research is crucial in writing a speech because a person needs references and sources for his or her own topic. There are many different sources that can aid a speaker when he or she is looking for information regarding his or her topic. When the speaker does research, he or she must make sure that the information that he or she has gotten is up to date. Moreover, a speaker should be open minded when choosing a topic and doing research because it will “ help [him or her] develop speeches that reach out to more people” (128). Furthermore, a speaker must have responsible knowledge, which “entails a comprehensive understanding of [his or her] topic that allows [him or her] to speak effectively and ethically” (128). Speakers must have responsible knowledge because it gives the speaker the right to speak. Moreover, there are many references and sources that a speaker can use in his or her speech. A speaker can incorporate personal knowledge and personal experience,
