Operating System Services Pre-Lab Page 2 L04 O PERATING SYSTEMS SERVICES P RE -L AB LAB OVERVIEW In this lab students will learn how to manage and configure services on the Windows and Linux operating systems. You will use the file sharing services you configured in the previous lab. L EARNING O BJECTIVES Upon completion of this lab, you should be able to Demonstrate and explain how to start, top and check the status of the service on the Windows and Linux operating system. Understand how to monitor a service locally on the server as well as remotely. Understand how to service logs its activity. L AB B REAKDOWN This lab consists of 3 parts: In part one you will change you Linux File Server NetBIOS name In part two you will explore how the Linux operating system uses and manages services In part two you will also explore how the Windows operating system uses and manages services LAB REQUIREMENTS You will need the following in order to perform your lab: This lab uses the same setup as the previous lab. So it is important that you complete the previous lab before attempting this lab.
