At the beginning of cell phones, it almost had a life cycle of 2 years. However, due to consumer choices, life cycle had changed over time. Cellphones now last longer than it was in the early 2000's is due to the fact that cellphone cost has really risen. Because of the rapid increase in technology and changes in design, we are starting to see 1 to 2 year life cycle coming back. One specific example is the life cycle of the Iphone 10 to the Iphone 11. So by the time the Iphone 12 comes out, Iphone 10 is at the decline stage. Reference Cell Phone Life Cycle. (n.d.). I found 3 old cell phones in the drawer that were replaced with more computer like phone and entertainment features. I feel that the true profit in the short product cycle must be in the initial high profit margin sales once a new technological improvement hits the market.
