Ogden has NY state granted monopoly that says he will be the only operator of steamboats. Argues that congress does not have the authority to write federal licensing law. *congress and regulate intrastate commerce if there is an interstate affect. Congress wins 2) Wickard v. Filburn (1942) – great depression time. Agricultural adjust law…limited farmers to growing 90% of their land. Wickard grows wheat on 91% and feeds him family. Wickard goes to court. Cant do it because then everyone else will do it. Congress wins 3) Heart of Atlanta Motel v. U.S. (1964) – congress writes civil rights act. Title 3 covered places of public accommadation (place to which the public is invited) civil rights act outlawed discrimination with race, color, religion, national orgin, and gender.
