QSO 345 Final ProjectProject Management Plan ReportBy Kevin SpringerSouthern New Hampshire University
ScenarioThe scenario that I have chosen for the final project is scenario two procuring a new software vendor. I chose scenario two because it seemed to interest me more than scenario one.Pass project failureThe Common Information Management Systems (CIMS) was a joint adventure between Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and seven other police organizations in Canada. The project started in 1997, the project was to build an integrated information system that the police departments could use.” The project had been troubled since the beginning, and by now considerable resources had been invested into the CIMS project by all stakeholders involved.” ( Compeau, D., & Movold, J. 2007) For over eight years the CIMS was worked on and by September 2005 the current vendor Integrated Technologies Group (ITG) was less productive in the project. The project was in trouble when the contracts were signed, “additional functionality for the RMS system had been federally mandated, and these changes were outside of the scope of the original ITG contract.” ( Compeau, D., & Movold, J. 2007) the federal government was to offer the funds for the upgrades, the funds have rescinded the cost for functionality for ITG was becoming financially prohibitive for the police agencies the project was more than the $8.5 million. The changes in the requirements of the software as part of the reason why the project failed. There was also a failure in communications with the stakeholders of the project. The faith that Chief Gravill has that ITG can deliver a software solution within the timeframe is doubtful as well.
Process GroupThe process for management to influence is the initiating phase and planning phase during the two processes the project is planned, a schedule is developed, the objectives are laid out the project scope is created, the cost is estimated. During these two phases management is needed to set the process of a new project in motion. Not having management influence means the project will unlikely be successful to meet the business needs. The processes which will consume the most resources are executing. Executing process” consists of the processes used to complete the work defined in the project management plan. It is about accomplishing the project's objectives. The executing process involves coordinating people and resources, as well as integrating and performing the project activities. The deliverables are produced as outputs from the processes performed, as defined in the project management plan.” (Haughey, 2020) TheExecuting process to me is the process that creates the product that the customer is looking for. I feel that this is the step that all the resources come together.
