U.S. History – Quarter 4 U.S. FOREIGN POLICY For our last discussion of the year, we will be focusing on recent and current U.S. foreign policy. Our presentations will span the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. In groups, you will be assigned foreign policy issues (wars, crises, issues) and will be presenting the information to the class. No additional paper will be necessary for this assignment, but your presentation must be very well researched. You will have 4 class days to complete this assignment. Foreign Policy Assignments Per 2: 4 groups Per 5: 4 groups Per 7: 5 groups Group 1: 1970s including: Nixon: détente, SALT I, opening China; Carter: Iran hostage crisis; Group 2: 1980s including: Reagan: Star Wars, Reagan and communism, Reagan and Gorbachev, , Iran-Contra scandal, Grenada Group 3: Reagan & Bush: End of the Cold War (brief synopsis important events), Panama (Noriega), Gulf War I Group 4: Clinton: NAFTA, Bosnia, Somalia, Haiti Group 5: Israel & Palestine, brief history, then explain since the Camp David Accords – essential question: what do we need to know to understand the news
