The product I chose for this assignment was Scotts Miracle-Gro grass seed. Scotts has an extensive line of grass seed products that range anywhere from four step programs to specific regional warm and cool season varieties to quick patch repair products. The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company also markets lawn fertilizers, insect control and growing media products. Scott’s subsidiaries and brands include Miracle-Gro, Osmocote, Roundup, Ortho, Smith & Hawken, and Hyponex. Discuss the external and internal factors that may affect the price of the product. There are several factors that may affect the price of Scott’s grass seed. The most important external factor is the environment and climatic conditions during the seeds growing season in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. This valley is known as the “grass seed capital of the world” because collectively it produces almost two-thirds of the total production of cool-season grasses in the United States. The reason the Valley is an ideal place to produce quality seed is due to its mild, wet winters and dry summers. Without these favorable conditions, grass seed germination and growth becomes stunted or produces low quality yields.
