Termination of contractual service by a  Teacher A teacher who has  entered  into contractual  continued service may resign at any time by  obtaining concurrence of the board or by serving  at least 30 days' written notice upon the  secretary of the board.

However… No teacher may resign during the school term,  without the concurrence of the board, in order to  accept another teaching assignment. Any teacher  terminating said service not in accordance with  this Section is guilty of unprofessional conduct  and liable to suspension of certificate for a period  not to exceed 1 year.

Mentoring of New Teachers The topic of mentoring is common to bring up  during an interview after the interview team  asks, “Do you have any questions?” Rather than ask the obvious (see next slide), ask  ABOUT the mentoring program established by  the school/district.

Mentor Program Requirements  (Sec. 21A 20) Each new teacher induction and mentoring  program plan:  (1) Assigns a mentor teacher to each new  teacher for a period of at least 2 school years.  (2) Aligns with the Illinois Professional  Teaching Standards, content area standards, and  applicable local school improvement and  professional development plans, if any.
