Textbook:
Applied Partial Differential Equations with Fourier Series and Boundary Value Problems by Richard
Haberman, 4th Edition, Pearson Prentice Hall.
Prerequisites:
Grade of C or better in MAP 2302 and in MAP 4305.
Course Description:
Introduction to second-order linear partial differential equations (heat, wave and Laplace equations),
separation of variables in PDEs, Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problems, method of eigenfunction expan-
sions (Fourier analysis), Green’s functions. Possible introduction to first-order PDEs and the method
of characteristics. From the textbook we will cover (parts of) chapters 1-5, 9 and 12.
