PARENTING STYLES2Parenting StylesIn this essay, I will compare and contrast permissive parenting and authoritarian parenting. These two parenting styles are very different but have a few similarities. It is important to be aware and educated on different parenting styles so that you can better understand and provide assistance to different parents and their children. As an educator, being knowledgeable about multiple parenting styles will also help you to better understand your students and find different ways to help them learn and retain new information. During this essay, I will also talk about how each of these parenting styles may impact a child’s social and emotional development. Lastly, I will discuss the importance of modifying these parenting styles so that it works in the best way possible for both the parent and the child.From my experience, Authoritarian parenting is a bit “old school”. You don’t see muchof this parenting style these days. Some sayings or statements used with this type of parenting style are “Because I said so” and, “Children should be seen, not heard”. Parents who practice authoritarian parenting rarely consider the child’s feelings or opinions. Rule enforcement is a big part of this parenting style. Children are expected to follow the rules that are set by the parents, with no exceptions. When the child makes a mistake or is disobedient, rather than teaching
