NBA Lockout Finalized Outline Econ 318 Collin Baldwin Katie Massey Patrick Kravitz Our goal in our research project is to determine all aspects of the NBA lockout. To help understand the lockout better, we researched three main topics: the current state of the NBA, the key economic indicators of the NBA, and a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the impact of the lockout. Regarding the current state of the NBA, Forbes announced that 17 of 30 teams were at an operating income loss, including both NBA Finals teams in Miami and Dallas. Also, 11 teams saw their team value drop this past season, including NBA champion Dallas. Clearly, the NBA is struggling to maintain steady revenue. As of now the NBA has currently cancelled the first two weeks of the regular season, and this would become the second lockout in league history. With the negotiations moving so slowly, there is a chance that the remainder of the games in November will be cancelled as well if both sides can’t agree. Free agencies and lockout guidelines are key economic indicators of the sector
