It started up in 1967, in the United States, when a small group of people who worked with auditing controls in computer systems. At that time this was becoming very important to the operations of their organizations as they felt the need for a more centralized source of information and guidance. In 1976 the association formed an education foundation to undertake a large-scale research effort to expand the knowledge and value of the IT governance and control field. (ISACA.org, 2011).
