Course Syllabus—Fall 2011 CHEM 1372: Fundamentals of Chemistry for Engineers Class: Tu, Th 8:30-9:50, Room 100 SEC. ........ Textbooks: Required Text : Hill, Petrucci, McCreary, Perry "General Chemistry 4e", Prentice Hall Required : Nonprogrammable scientific calculator, TI-30 or equivalent (buy one now if you don’t have one). Optional : C. Alton Hassell, “ Solutions Manual, 4/E ” Prentice Hall Optional : Dixie Goss, “Study Guide 4/E” Prentice Hall Course Catalog Information: Credit : This course may not apply toward a degree until CHEM 1117 has been successfully completed. This course has been approved for Level 2 of the core curriculum and as a fulfillment of a science requirement for mechanical, industrial, and electrical and computer engineering majors only . Prerequisites : Math 1310 (Algebra) + one year of high school chemistry or CHEM 1301 at UH. Exams: Exams are given in CASA (221 Garrison) on the specified dates. Reserve your time at If you miss your scheduled time for any reason, you must schedule another timeslot within the 3-day exam period. For this reason, be careful about scheduling your exam time on the last day of the exam period. I do not have any special powers or authority to get you a time slot—this is your responsibility. The following are prohibited in exam rooms: programmable calculators, pagers, beepers, cell phones and any other communication devices or electronic/alphanumeric storage devices. Periodic tables will be provided. The final exam is at a special time , Wednesday, Dec 7 to Friday, December 9. There are no makeup exams. Two-thirds of the final exam score can (at the instructor’s option) be used to substitute for a midterm exam that is missed due to a documented family/medical emergency , if you contact the instructor before the exam. No more than one exam can be made up using the final score during the semester. Examinations will consist of multiple choice and fill in the blank questions. The three midterm exams (20 questions
