Jeremy Pflug CIS 615 Assignment #1 8/28/09 Chapter 1 – Activity 21b Discuss the three elements of an information system (hardware, software and persware) that managers must consider. Which of the three do you consider the most important? Hardware is the physical equipment used for input, processing and output activities in an information system. (Key Terms) The hardware is the mechanical, electronic and electrical devices that compose a computer system, as the CPU, disk drives, keyboard and screen. Hardware gives the system flexibility and capacity for handling large amounts of information. Software is the detailed, preprogrammed instructions that control and coordinate the work of computer software components in an information system. (Key Terms) This also includes the documents that give instructions on how to use the computer itself. The computer software includes programs such as; Windows Operating Programs. Software can be simply defined as the brain of an information system. Persware – The people side, also known as the “persware.”
