Tendency in the West to categorize and dualize: o Masculine: Feminine: Objectivity subjectivity Detachment feelings/emotions Will relationships Reason submission For some ecofeminists, "the ecologically destructive male ethic of science and objectivity must be replaces by a feminine ethic of INTERCONNECTEDNESS, whole, and interdependence" (Kinsley 205) Interconnectedness is the correct interpretation of nature Ethic of Interconnectedness Responding to the critiques of science The "female" ethic: o Tempers the "male" tendency to distance itself from the natural world, to objectify reality by asserting autonomy and aloofness o Seeks to engage the external world by investing oneself in human
