Dean Search Thought and Expression Professor McCorry 8 October 2010 Inspiration is All I Need I am not a writer. When I think of a writer, I think of someone who is creative and innovative. They are someone who has a strong grasp of the English language and can create an organized and well thought out story at the snap of a finger. When I think of a polished writer, I think of someone who is creative and innovative. They are organized and possess good grammatical skills, as well as sentence construction abilities. How do they become good writers, though? Is it something they are just born with or is it something that is attained through hard work and practice? The answer is simple: no. They do not have special God-given abilities, but in fact have to work hard in order to become well rounded. My whole life, writing has been something that I have been decent at but at the same time despised. I could never blow through an essay like others. It would take me hours of hard work and thought before I could come up with a finished product that I was pleased with. I do not possess these “creative and innovative” qualities, which is why I do not consider myself a writer. Writers also have to work very hard to become good, which I do not have the patience for. I am not a writer yet but I know I have potential. One thing keeps me motivated: inspiration. Growing up, I was not always the best writer. It was something I had to work at because it never came easy to me like math had. My ideas would never be put on paper because I didn’t Search 1
