Give Me Liberty! Sources of Freedom History Center Sources of Freedom: Public "Execution" (1774) In Farmington, Connecticut in May 1774, the Sons of Liberty posted this handbill announcing the public "execution" of the Boston Port Act. As you read this source, note the radicalism of the language and the powerful symbolism of publicly executing this act. Who, according to the pamphlet, was responsible for this injustice? Could the breach between the colonists in Boston and their sovereign be repaired? How would the authors have defined slavery? Of what did their liberty consist? To pass through the fire at six o'clock this evening, in honour to the immortal goddess of Liberty, the late infamous [Boston Port] Act of the British Parliament for farther distressing the American Colonies; the place of execution will be the public parade, where all Sons of Liberty are desired to attend.
