AMH 2041: Paper 3 Topic: Write an essay in which you answer the following question: Which one of the "Dissident Democrats" of the 1830s (William Leggett, George Henry Evans, or Thomas Morris) had the greatest influence on the forming of the Free Soil Party, and why? Draw your information from Jacksonian Antislavery and use lectures for background information, as needed. Outside research is not permitted. General Information: Due December 2, 2011, by 11:59PM to Moodle. Your TA may also require a hard copy with a separate deadline. 1200 - 1500 words. Longer and shorter papers may be penalized. For this paper, we will be grading for content, writing, and improvement . Examples of what we will look for in content include but are not limited to: Good understanding of political ideas and events, as well as the chronological and causal connections among them. General knowledge of the period and the political issues of the day. Examples that are specific and relevant to the points being argued.

Unformatted text preview: Examples of what we will look for in writing include but are not limited to: Clear and concise statement of the papers argument (ie the thesis). Examples that clearly support the thesis. Topic sentences that relate to both the thesis and the paragraph. Proper use of quotations and paraphrases. Formal and clear writing. To grade for improvement, we will look back at comments on previous papers to see if specific problems identified earlier are fixed or improved. If you make the types of mistakes on Paper 3 as you did previously, you can expect it to hurt your grade. Alternatively, if we see improvement on some of the problems identified earlier in the semester, that may help your grade. Academic Misconduct: The decision whether to require students to take a $100 course in academic ethics, in addition to any other sanctions such as failing the paper or the course, lies with the faculty....
