Mechanical properties of materials. Axial load, torsion, bending and transverse shear. Combined loading. Stress transformation. Deflection of beams and shafts. Buckling of columns. Course Format: Lecture/Recitation. Prerequisite(s): CVE/MCE 220 (Statics) or MCE 224 (Statics and Dynamics). Lectures: Section 1: Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays: 11:00 – 11:50 am in EB2-215. Office Hours: Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays: 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm, or by appointment. Textbook: Mechanics of Materials , by F.P. Beer, E.R. Johnston, J.T. DeWolf, and D.F. Mazurek, 5 th Edition in SI Units, 2009, McGraw-Hill. Course Objectives: This course is designed to help the student: Develop a working knowledge of the relations between the loads applied to a non-rigid body
