Studentswillplanandperformanexperimentinvolvinginsectvision,morespecifically,phototaxis. Phototaxisisanydirectionalmovementinresponsetoalightsource. SuggestedMaterials: Aruler,stickyflypaper($0.97/boxoffourrolls;canbepurchasedatanyhomeimprovementstore),3 differenttypesoflightbulbs,andalightsource(outdoors) BasicDesign: Anexampleofabasicdesignforthisexperimentwouldbesomethinglikethis: Youwillsetupastringofflypaper8inchesfromalightsource.Thefirstnight,youwillleavethepaper upforthreehoursafterdarkwiththelightsturnedoff.Thiswillbethecontrol.Removetheflypaper andcount,measure,andidentifytoordertheinsectsyoucaught.Thesecondnight,youwillrepeatthis withsomekindoflightsource(i.e.agreenlightbulb)andthethirdandfourthnightsusingadifferent lightsource(i.e.redlight,blacklight,oraninsectrepellantlightbulb)Thisexperimentwillrunfor4 nights.**Feelfreetobecreativeandmodifythedesign.Thisisjustanexampleandshouldbeusedasa startingpointforyourowndesign.
