Key Financial Relationship Paper 2 Introduction Businesses from most industries use the four basic financial statements to summarize the financial activities for business. The summary is utilized by investors, creditors, accountants, or other external decision makers and generates at any given time, although usually prepared at the end of the year, quarter, or month. In this paper the discussion will be on these four basic statements, how they interrelate and how they can be useful to managers, investors, creditors, and employees. This paper will show how both Coca Cola and the Pepsi Company prepare their company’s financial statements. Interrelationships Noted by Financial Statements Pepsi and Coca Cola are both very similar in their business practices and ventures. Both enjoy the success with their exclusive secret recipe for their drink. Since both have increased their brands as well as investing in outside ventures. The two companies have been bitter rivals, constantly competing against each other in domestic and worldwide taste tests. Although both companies have tried diligently to create a second successful product, they have not been able to equal the success of their original brand. In their effort to follow up with another brand, they both went public to have the cash flow to invest in their company. Since they are publicly traded companies, it is imperative that they maintain accurate accounting practices. They must be able to show how they are doing financially so that investors, managers, and personnel can continue to have confidence in the growth of the company. 2008 and 2009 Financial Statements Income Statements The income statements for both companies are so closely identical, just as their main
