Management Planning 2 Abstract The planning function of management is deciding in advance what to do, how to do and who is to do it. Planning bridges the gap between where we are to, where we want to go (Management Study Guide, 2008). Planning makes it possible for things to occur where otherwise it would probably not occur. If proper planning is conducted it takes into consideration available and prospective human and physical resources of the organization to get effective co-ordination, contribution and perfect adjustment. It is the basic management function which includes formulation of one or more detailed plans to achieve optimum balance of needs or demands with the available resources (Management Study Guide, 2008). We will evaluate the planning function of management at Halliburton, analyze the influence that legal issues, ethics, and corporate social responsibility have had on management planning at Halliburton and analyze at least three factors that influence Halliburton’s strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency planning. Halliburton Founded in 1919, Halliburton is one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the energy industry. With more than 60,000 employees in approximately 80 countries, the company serves the upstream oil and gas industry throughout the lifecycle of the reservoir – from locating hydrocarbons and managing geological data, to drilling and formation evaluation, well construction and completion, and optimizing production through the life of the field.
