MODERN MYTH PROPOSAL 2 Modern Myth Proposal We will discuss the myth of “The American Dream”. Our great country of the United States is founded on the premise that as a free country our freedom includes a promise of the possibility of prosperity and success. In the definition of the American Dream, by James Truslow Adams, he states, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or circumstances of birth” (Truslow 1931). The idea of the American Dream is embedded in the United States Declaration of Independence. It proclaims that "all men are created equal" and that they are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights" including "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.
