MOTIVATIONAL PROFILE OF THE RITZ-CARLTON 2 Motivational Profile of the Ritz-Carlton Whether traveling for business or for leisure, the Ritz-Carlton has been a staple of excellence for almost one hundred years. The Ritz-Carlton is known for its marvelous reputation for providing comfort, state-of-the-art amenities, and primary focus on excellent service. Employees are trained to provide quality service and to do it in a manner as they would expect to be treated. The Ritz-Carlton implements intrinsic and extrinsic motivational strategies to accomplish this outstanding service. The Ritz-Carlton recognizes the value of its personnel, so it does everything possible to ensure that each person is properly trained and feels privileged to be part of fulfilling the vision for the hotel. Brief History of the Ritz-Carlton The history of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company began with the opening of The Ritz- Carlton, Boston in 1927. All Ritz-Carlton hotels and resorts worldwide are benchmarked by the standards of service, dining and facilities of this Boston landmark (The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, 2010). Cesar Ritz, the “king of hoteliers and hotelier to king,” gave roots to the legacy of The Ritz-Carlton, Boston. His philosophy of service and innovations helped to revolutionize the luxury hotel experience in Europe through his management of The Ritz Paris and The Carlton in London. The Ritz-Carlton, Boston redefined the meaning of hospitality in America by creating luxury in a hotel setting, by providing the following services: Private bath in the guest rooms Lighter fabrics in rooms which allow thorough washing A formal, professional appearance consisting of white tie and apron uniforms for the wait staff, black tie for the Maitre d’ and morning s uits for all other staff Widespread fresh flowers throughout public areas A la carte dining choices
