Week One – Introduction to operations research, the problem solving process, terminology, computations using the Excel add-ins Introduction Context: We begin the course by describing the problem solving process. This includes the translation of a situation that needs improvement into a problem statement, and the conversion of the problem statement into a mathematical model. We also introduce terminology that will be used throughout the course and go through the steps needed to set up and solve problems using the Excel add-ins that come with the textbook.
