Anthony Filice November 10, 2011 PSY 265 Dr. Jocelyn Enabulele Capstone CheckPoint 1. What are the effects of the media’s portrayal of sexuality on adolescents’ sexual lives? The effects of the media’s portrayal of sexuality on an adolescents’ sexual life varies, it all depends on several factors. If the teen doesn’t have access to the media, or has limited or restricted access, then the child wouldn’t be affected by the media’s portrayal. On the other hand, the average kid in the United States has a lot of access to a lot of media, and the media is built on sex. Even cartoons like the Looney Toons and Shrek have sexual references. Sex is everywhere, if you simply type in the word “girl” into a search engine, and go to images, you will see nudity, and not artistic nudity, pornographic nudity. All of this puts plenty of pressure on adolescent kids, to look their best, and to try to imitate the things they see and read, and also, to have sex. 2.
