Department of Chemistry offers 3 “General Chemistry” course lines CHEM 1301, for non-science majors CHEM 1331-1332, for science and some engineering majors CHEM 1372, for mechanical, industrial, and electrical and computer engineering majors only . Your Background : 1. Should have a recent course in high school chemistry and have done well (B or better) 2. Should be good at setting up problems and solving them 3. If not, you are probably better off in 1301 as review and preparation. 4. Need to meet prerequisites

This is a difficult class if you do not have the background or do not keep up with the reading and homework Past semesters: 50- 60% of students end up with D’s, F’s, or drops. This is typical of results nationally. Please, let’s do much better: First, get into the optimal class (1301 vs 1372) for you. Attend essentially all the class sessions Solve homework and practice homework diligently Get tutoring help as needed Don’t fall behind No exams are dropped, so you must do well on all exams.
