The Black Panther Party o Police would get the panthers and hurt them o They began to use the image of a pig as representation of the police o There were a lot of confrontation between the police and the panthers 3. Purpose of confrontation between police and panthers o Publicity Allows the party to get instant attention - front page of the newspaper o Amazing tool for recruitment You didn’t have to go to a meeting to know what the group was about because of the publicity 4. Demographics of BPP o Young black males feeling somewhat powerless who would be the one to initially be in the party Most of them born in the south o Black veterans Opposed to Experienced with guns Came back from Vietnam Black and Latino men dead Come back, start to go to college, then join the BPP o As the party grew, they wanted to change it from the college origin to be taken more seriously From a campus org to a fully fled organization 5. Why is there a disconnect between the college and school system?
