In the beginning of the semester, I had hoped to further my interest in writing and strengthen my skills so that I could be a more confident writer. I have always had an appreciation for writing because I feel as though you can say so much on paper that may be difficult to say in person. In the past, I have felt as though I was a strong writer but I could never really organize my thoughts into a coherent and strong piece. In our first assignment for English 111, we were told to describe our relationship with writing; I remember saying that I had all of the passion that is needed for successful writing, but my organization skills needed to be worked on. I feel as though the openness and flexibility of this class allowed me to organize myself in a way that has made my writing stronger and myself more confident. In previous English classes that I have taken, assignments were always given with a specific prompt that everyone was required to follow. I feel as though the rigidness of my previous classes was stressful and hindered my ability to write well. In English 111, we had the freedom to write about things that we could relate to and felt passionate about. When I am given specific guidelines that must be followed, I feel stressed and pressured
