Nikki Resor UA: Rachel Petri 6:00 W Week #3: Guilty Media Pleasure In a world that has become fast paced and centered around constant communication, I fear that we, as a society and as individuals, are losing vital experiences that help shape people into healthy and well rounded humans. Although the growth of the Internet has benefitted society in several ways, I also feel as though we overlook the negative consequences that it has on us. One product of the Internet that I find shamefully enjoyable and fascinating is Facebook. As you can probably tell, I view and critique mass media from a more liberal perspective. I am in no way against mass culture, but I do believe that we need to be aware of how it is affecting us. Does communicating through Facebook threaten our social development? Does posting our personality profiles for all to see magnify the way we value others opinions about us to an unnecessary extent? Facebook gives us a sense of control over our public identity that we have never had before. The way people get to
