Solar winds – expansion of corona out into space. Types of solar wind Fast solar winds have a velocity of 800 km/sec and emanate of coronal holes. It takes about 10 days for fast solar winds to reach earth. Slow solar winds have a velocity about ½ that of fast winds and emanates from some source near suns equator and the expansion of corona Density – 5 particles per cubic cm at earths orbit Solar Constant – Amount of energy delivered to a square meter of space every second and measure at the average distance the earth is from the sun. <What would happen if the solar constant increased or decreased?> The Heliosphere – The area of influence created by the Sun’ magnetic field

Unformatted text preview: The Heliopause – The boundary between the region of space dominated by the Sun’s magnetic field and interstellar space. This is similar to the interaction of the Earth’s magnetic field and the solar wind. Solar terrestrial relationships- between 1645-1715 sunspot activities dropped to almost zero. This is known as the Maunder Minimum. <Did lack of sunspots affect temp.?> . Model of the Sun spot Cycle. Horace Babcock proposed a model that incorporated the 11 year sunspot cycle with the 22 year magnetic cycle of the Sun....
